The wait is over for the World record

It has been over a year since the 2014 Hockey Marathon in Chestermere but now the results are finally in.

After going through 248 hours’ worth of footage, the Guinness Book of World Records in London, England has confirmed that last year’s game was indeed the World’s Longest Ice Hockey game.

Alex Halat, organizer of the game, said it felt great to finally be recognized for the achievement.

“It was a long time coming, obviously it’s been a long year for the guys wondering what’s going on and why is it taking over a year, and then we finally got that email saying we are approved,” Halat said.

Halat said it wasn’t about the record though; the most important thing was raising money for the Alberta Children’s Hospital.

“The game is one thing and the record is one thing, the whole goal was to raise money for the Children’s Hospital, so ultimately that was our Stanley Cup. This is kind of our consolation prize, but pat on the back to all the players, organizers and volunteers for helping achieve this world record.”

Halat said he would love to participate in another game like that, but it all depends on if his body would be able to handle the physical toll.
