Firefighters respond to blaze in NE

A rude awakening Friday, for a family in the city’s northeast, following a garage fire.

Battalion Chief Stu Laird says crews were called to the 200 block of Marpole Bay around 3:30 a.m., and found the fire had spread into the home.

“The occupants were alerted by the neighbours so they had evacuated prior to Calgary Fire Department arrival. Also, evacuation was done by neighbours on the two adjacent homes,” he said.

There’s significant damage to the home’s garage, as well as two vehicles inside, but the house suffered minor damages.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
