Fire crews were on scene for hours Wednesday night, dousing a house fire in the southeast community of Erin Woods.
The call came in around 9 p.m. in the 100 block of Erin Grove SE.
One witness says she and her husband were in their back yard when they heard some yelling and then saw a wall of fire on the house across the street.
Batallion Chief Stu Laird says a gas metre also caught fire, which caused a bit of an issue. Officials were on scene monitoring the burning gas line for some time.
“It’s easier for us to control a controlled flare, than it is to extinguish the gas and have an uncontrolled gas leak,” Laird explained.
He said they had to wait for ATCO to cap the gas line before putting out the flare up.
It’s believed all three people in the home got out safely, as did their dog.
No word yet on a cause, or damages.
It’s the second major house fire in Erin Woods within about a month after two homes were destroyed on Erin Meadow Way on April 23.
