New poll says Albertans open to change in oil patch

It appears Rachel Notley has the blessing of Albertans to conduct a royalty review for oil and gas companies.

Mainstreet Technologies talked to about 3,000 people living in the province, and found 65 per cent supported a review of money collected from companies drilling on crown land, with 46 per cent believing the rates should increase.

Mainstreet President and CEO Quito Maggi said Premier Rachel Notley should be pleased with the results.

“The fact that people support a review is probably good news for the government maybe going ahead with the royalty review sooner rather than later,” Maggi said.

The poll also showed Albertans are more optimistic about the future of the province’s finances now than back in December.
