Alberta Health Services urges precautions due to wildfire smoke

Alberta Health Services wants to remind people to protect themselves in case the smoke from wildfires affects air quality.

Dr. Kathryn Koliaska says the biggest danger is when people breathe in the tiny particles that are released in the air by the fire.

She tells 660News, the amount you breathe in and any pre-existing conditions are all factors in how badly it can affect you.

“People that are young and healthy, if they have a small amount of smoke breathed in, they can likely continue on without much notice but if the smoke gets more concentrated or if people have Asthma or other lung conditions then that’s a different story.”

Koliaska says, make sure when you close the doors, windows and vents, you’re breathing in clean air and not drawing in the smoky air from outside.

She adds, if you’re having difficulty breathing or have any other concerns, call Health Link.
