60 million year old fish fossil found in Calgary

An amazing discovery in northwest Calgary while a company was digging out the basement for a new development.

They discovered a 60 million year old school of fossilized fish.

The University of Calgary says five fish were found in a block of sandstone in the Paskapoo formation, a 60 million year-old rock formation underneath Calgary and much of the surrounding area.

The discovery is believe from a time shortly after an asteroid impact that caused mass dinosaur and species extinction.

A paleontologist from the university and the man who discovered the fossil are expected to speak about it Thursday at a news conference at the fossil site.
