Fire crews battle house fire in southwest

Fire crews battled a kitchen fire in the city’s southwest early Sunday evening.
The call came in at around 5 p.m. from the area of Woodfield Green S.W.
Batallion chief John Cherweniuk said the fire was confined to the house, but still caused substantial damage.
“It was moderate damage,” Cherweniuk said. “It’s unlikely that the family will be able to re-occupy the house until the repairs are made.”
He added the mother and her three children inside the home evacuated before crews arrived.
A neighbour who tried to help extinguish the fire was checked for smoke inhalation, but no other injuries were reported.
