Women’s World Cup Trophy Tour stops in Calgary

The Women’s World Cup Trophy Tour is making a three-day stop in Calgary.

The event, taking place at Market Mall, will give soccer fans a chance to get up close and personal with the trophy.

“It’s a very unique moment,” FIFA Marketing Alliances Manager Sarah Gandoin explained. “Many, many players dream of seeing that trophy that close and unfortunately, only the winning team gets that opportunity. This time, we brought the chance for the fans to see the trophy.”

In addition to seeing the hardware, guests can take part in interactive activities such as the Ultimate Goalie, foosball tables, Video Cheer Booth, FIFA locker room and the winner’s tunnel leading to the trophy room. Their experience will be capped off by a special gift from Coca-Cola.

The Fan Experience runs from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and then from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Sunday.

“This is a huge fan experience that FIFA and Coca-Cola have put together for the fans to get the first feeling of what the FIFA Women’s World Cup is going to be like in Canada,” Gandoin said.

Although Calgary isn’t a host city of the tournament, trophy tour organizers felt it was important to stop in our city.

“We wanted to reach as many Canadians as possible,” she said. “We decided the trophy tour was the opportunity to go wider.”

The Women’s World Cup begins June 6 in Edmonton, when Canada opens the tournament against China.
