Social media playing role in Alberta Votes 2015

Social media has been front and centre throughout the election.

Although the most popular hashtag has been #abvote, some negative trending words made the rounds and hurt one party in particular.

“#PrenticeblamesAlbertans, with his look in the mirror comment, only hurt the PC’s more versus other parties like NDP have seemingly done very well,” social media professor Tom Vassos said.

He added, it’s still to be seen if the amount of negative online chatter will translate to a change in leadership.

The use of social media also helped educate and inform Albertans.

“To see what’s going on is like participating in a great big provincial kitchen table conversation,” Vassos explained.
