Rachel Notley and her New Democrats have made history by toppling the Progressive Conservative dynasty in Alberta.
For the first time in 44 years, a different party will rule the province — and for the first-time ever, the N-D-P is in charge.
Observers said Notley’s campaign was near-flawless and political pundits suggest the tide started to turn with her victory over P-C
Premier Jim Prentice in the televised leaders’ debate.
Her unwavering message was the creation of jobs through tax incentives, promoting oil-refining jobs at home and restoring cuts to health care and to classrooms.
The Tories used attack ads late in the campaign, warning that an N-D-P government would kill jobs, but Notley remained optimistic, and urged Albertans to embrace a new path rather than run from it.
Notley, the daughter of popular former NDP leader Grant Notley, will be the province’s 17th premier.
