Body discovered east of Airdrie identified by family as Jessica Rae Newman

Calgary Police have taken over the investigation into the discovery of human remains east of Airdrie.

The mother of a missing Calgary woman has told local media, the remains are that of Jessica Rae Newman.

A work crew made the gruesome discovery shortly before 4 p.m. in a ditch near Range Road 285 and Township Road 264.

Police have not confirmed the identity of the victim; they will only say it may be part of a missing person’s investigation dating back to March.

An autopsy is currently underway at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine cause of death.

Jessica Rae Newman, 24, was reported missing after she disappeared from the Forest Lawn area on March 10.

The Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation.
