TORONTO – Canadian soprano Clarice Carson has died at age 85.

A release from publicist Linda Litwack says the opera singer died in Toronto on Saturday surrounded by her family.

Before she retired in 1986, Carson performed with opera companies in North and South America and Europe.

In December 1998, Carson was inducted in The Opera Hall of Fame at Place des Arts by L’Opera de Montreal, and in 2013 she was honoured with a plaque at the National Opera America Center in New York.

Carson was born in Montreal but lived in Toronto for the past 27 years.
