Calgary Hitmen proud of season, despite conference final loss

The Calgary Hitmen’s season came to an unceremonious end Friday night in Brandon, Man., as the Wheat Kings eliminated them in the 3rd round of the WHL playoffs with an 8-2 win in Game 5.

The loss caps off a fairly successful season for the Hitmen that saw them finish 2nd in the Eastern Conference with a record of 45-22-14.

Defender Ben Thomas said while they’re disappointed in not going all the way, finishing in the final four isn’t too shabby.

“It’s a step up from where we were last year,” Thomas said. “I think getting to the conference final is big progress for our team and it’s just the beginning of a good future in the playoffs.”

Forward Adam Tambellini finished first in scoring for the Hitmen in the regular season with 86 points, including 47 goals.
