CRA extends tax deadline after date flub

The deadline to file your taxes has been extended by five days by the Canada Revenue Agency, because of “human error”.

Last Friday, the CRA mistakenly issued a statement saying the deadline was May 5.

On Monday, they issued a correction that it was in fact this Thursday, April 30.

Due to all of the confusion, the National Revenue Minister has ordered that the deadline been extended until next Tuesday for all Canadians.

This is the second year in a row the deadline has been extended, after the heart-bleed bug caused problems for online filers last year.

Below is a copy of the memos that were sent out to tax preparers that caused the extension. Click here for a mobile-friendly version.
