An end to pot prohibition is coming: protest organizers

More than 100 pot prohibition protesters who gathered across from City Hall Monday afternoon are hoping to catch the ear of the prime minister.

Shouts of “legalize cannabis, end prohibition” were shouted as, instead of the stereotypical smoke-in, they were trying to grab people’s attention with information.

Participants, including Keith Fagin, the founder of 420-Calgary, handed out shirts, buttons, and pamphlets on the believed benefits of marijuana use.

“They can see that signs and evidence says, and has said for a very long time, that prohibition of cannabis is much more harmful than the substance itself,” Fagin said,

He said he believes recreational legalization is not far off.

“The voidance is out there. They can’t stop it. I know Harper is strongly against it, but now we have a federal liberal Justin Trudeau that stood up and spoke out and said yes legalize. Listen to the evidence, listen to the science, even the Alberta Liberals are saying that as well,” Fagin said.

A small police presence monitored the peaceful demonstration.
