McDonald’s holds hiring blitz

Youth unemployment is nearly double the overall rate in Canada, and McDonald’s is hoping to capitalize on that number.

It has its sights set on filling 6,500 jobs during National Hiring Day.

Senior VP and Chief People Officer Sharon Ramalho tells 660News, in Alberta they have nearly 700 vacancies.

“It’s a day that we are coast to coast, opening up our doors, and inviting the job seekers, who are looking for either part-time or full-time employment, to come on in, speak to a manager, speak to a franchisee, learn more about what some of the opportunities are that we have within our restaurants and within our local communities,” she said.

Ramalho says a lot of employees aren’t just passing through.

She started with McDonald’s as a 15-year-old and says 65 per cent of their leadership team began as crew in the restaurant.

Job seekers can apply in-person Wednesday at participating McDonald’s and be interviewed on-the-spot or you can also apply online.
