Lowest voter turnout in history?

So, are Albertans engaged enough to head to the polls in droves?

MRU political scientist Duane Bratt says ‘no.’

In fact, he tells City News he believes it will be lowest turnout in Alberta history.

“In 2008, which was the previous low, there was about 40 per cent turnout. I think this will be even lower than that. I think the public is just disengaged politically,” said Bratt.

He thinks it’s because Albertans are upset about the early election and about the cynicism surrounding the Wildrose floor-crossers.

Bratt also says it won’t be as competitive an election as we saw in 2012 because the opposition parties are in disarray and they don’t have the resources the government has.
