Calgary police continue search for violent carjacking suspect

Calgary police are looking for a woman considered armed and dangerous after a violent carjacking in the parking lot of Marlborough Mall.

Staff Sgt. Geoff Gawlinski said just after 10 a.m. a woman was in her car with a passenger in the front seat when another woman approached.

“The offender approached the people in their vehicle which was parked and just started making conversation and asking for directions to a nearby place and at that time used the art of surprise and used a handgun,” he said.

That’s when the driver was told to leave the vehicle and the offender drove off with the passenger in the front seat, who suffers from a medical condition, believed to be cerebral palsy.

About 15 minutes later, the passenger was let out unharmed in the 5000 block of Marbank Drive SE.

“Definitely emotionally upset, something you don’t expect’s going to happen in your day,” he said.

HAWCS was called into the scene but was unable to locate the blue 2004 Toyota RAV 4.

The woman who allegedly stole the vehicle is described as Caucasian, between 30 and 40 years old, with a heavy build, and long brown hair that was tied up in a ponytail.

She was wearing a grey hoodie, a grey winter jacket with a fur-lined hood, black pants and brown shoes.

The first suspect is the caretaker of the passenger.

The stolen vehicle’s Alberta plates are ZSK 727.

Police have gathered CCTV footage, but are looking more and anyone with information should contact them at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers.
