Calgary’s longest serving employee retires

The city’s longest serving employee ever is retiring.

George Dorn was honoured Monday at City Hall for half a century of service.

Dorn began work in 1965, was one of the first behind the wheel, when the very first CTrain hit the tracks in the 1980’s, and he’s been driving ever since.

Calgary Transit Boss Doug Morgan commended him for a job well done.

“I’ve got to say, he’s what makes me proud to work for the city and to work for Calgary Transit,” he said. “To see the longevity and to see a regular guy make and honest living doing good work in the community.”

When asked if he had a favourite memory, Dorn said: every day was his favourite day on the job.

“Thank you very kindly, I enjoyed every minute of it,” he said.

He added, he’s made a lot of friends out of long-time riders.
