Investigators return to Airdrie-area acreage to search for clues in Liknes, O’Brien homicides

An acreage near Airdire is once again the centre of police activity as investigators collect evidence in the murder case of a five-year-old Calgary boy and his grandparents.

The search Sunday comes almost exactly nine months after Nathan O’Brien’s mother reported him and his grandparents, Alvin and Kathy Liknes missing from a Calgary home.

The search last summer spurred a nation-wide Amber Alert and then a homicide investigation that led authorities to the rural property.

Douglas Garland was arrested and charged in connection with the deaths.

The Calgary Police Service confirms in a written statement that there are personnel on a property east of Airdrie to collect additional evidence to support the upcoming court case in relation to the Liknes and O’Brien homicides.

There is no new information regarding the location of the victims.

The case is currently before the courts.

Garland is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in May.
