Kill the lights, Saturday, for Earth Hour

Earth Hour 2015 happens Saturday, March 28 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m (local time).

The City of Calgary is flipping the switch at city facilities and hosting a celebratory event.

Kyle White explains it’s a way for the city to “create an opportunity to unplug, connect with others and reflect on the things that we can do through the year to reduce our input on the environment.”

On Saturday, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., at Olympic Plaza, event-goers will be able to participate in several Earth-saving, energy-conscious events.

“One of the things is we’re going to be making LED lanterns,” White told 660News, and those lanterns will accompany kids in a parade around the plaza.

He added, “we’ll have an Earth Hour photo booth and there is also going to be hot chocolate provided by Good Earth Café.”

The event started in 2007 and has since grown to more than 162 countries and territories, worldwide.

In the official Earth Hour Video, United States President Barack Obama makes things abundantly clear, “we are the first generation to feel the impact of climate change, and the last generation to do something about it.”
