Steve Nash calls it a career

A Canadian sports icon is hanging up his sneakers for good.

After 19 seasons in the NBA, Steve Nash is retiring. The point guard is an eight-time NBA All-Star and a two-time recipient of the NBA MVP award.

The 41-year-old is best known for his playmaking abilities and is third overall in NBA assist history.

Over the span of his career, he played for the Phoenix Suns, the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Nash showed great pride for growing the game of basketball in Canada and always wanted to elevate the sport in this country.

As part of the national team, he earned a silver medal at the 1999 FIBA Americas Championship and bronze in 2001. He captained Canada at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.
