Nenshi not impressed with New Brunswick MP’s comments

Mayor Naheed Nenshi is not satisfied with a Conservative MP’s apology after some distasteful comments about temporary foreign workers.

New Brunswick MP John Williamson was speaking at a conference in Ottawa when he told delegates, it made no sense to pay “whities” to stay home while companies bring in “brown people” as TFWs.

Williamson has since tweeted he was sorry for the language he used.

However, Nenshi tells City News, this was a big mistake for someone who is supposed to be a communications professional.

“You don’t fix that in a 140 character tweet. I’d like to hear a lot more from Mr. Williamson on what he was thinking, what he actually meant, what he believes the status of non-white Canadian citizens is and whether he thinks he can continue in his job if he really feels that people who are white are Canadian are people who are not white, initially, are not,” he said.

It’s not immediately clear whether the New Brunswick MP made a public apology other than his tweets on the weekend.
