Federal food safety watchdog says two cows to develop BSE were born on same Alberta farm

Canada’s food safety organization says two cows reported to have mad cow disease in the last five years were born on the same Alberta farm.
Paul Mayers of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the most recent case discovered earlier this month involves a cow born in 2009.
He adds that another cow born on the same farm in 2004 was reported to have the disease in 2010.
Mayers says an investigation will include all the cows born on the farm between 2004 and 2010 which may have been exposed to the same feed.
He says it’s the first time Canada has had two separate cases of mad cow disease linked to the same birth farm.
The food safety agency also says China is the newest country to impose temporary trade restrictions on beef imports from Canada.
