Toque Tuesday aims to fund an end to homelessness

It’s Toque Tuesday: an annual event to raise money for the homeless.

There are an estimated 235,000 people without shelter across Canada, and on Tuesday, tons of volunteers will be hitting the streets, selling hats in order to fund a solution.

Kevin Brown is with the John Howard Society in Calgary, a partner in the campaign organized by Raising the Roof.

He tells 660News, the proceeds from selling the toques help local organizations.

“Funds sold in Calgary stay in Calgary. 80 percent of net sales go directly to front line agencies working with the homeless, like the Calgary John Howard Society and Service Anonymous, while 20 per cent supports Raising the Roof’s national initiative,” Brown said.
