One dead after shooting in Auburn Bay

A man has been found dead in the street in a community in the southeast, after police responded to reports of gunshots.

It happened just after 9:30 a.m. Thursday, on Auburn Sound Circle.

Duty Inspector Michael Watterston says it doesn’t appear to be random, but they don’t have a motive for the killing just yet.

“This is certainly in the early stages of our investigation, we’ll expand our scene to the best of the information that we have to try and determine what we have and collect what we need to collect,” said Watterston.

One neighbour in the area told 660News that she couldn’t believe what she saw when she looked outside.

“It’s crazy, it has me shaken up. Like, my husband is at work and I said to my girlfriend that I was going to meet that usually we leave about 20 minutes earlier to go to this group and we were just running behind this morning. So it’s scary to think that we could have been going by at that time” she said.

Another neighbour thought it was just construction noise.

“I thought it sounded weird, for sure. I thought they were dropping, it just sounded like they were dropping 2 by 4’s, like three or four of them. So I thought it was definitely weird” she said.

Early on, police were searching for a man driving a beige coloured van, but now that may not be the case.

If it proves to be homicide, it would be Calgary’s third murder of 2015.
