Record sales for Apple’s App Store

A day after we learned Apple is about to jack up rates on its App Store in Canada, the company has announced record sales.

In a release, it says the first week of January set a new record for billings from the App Store.

Global customers spent nearly half a billion dollars.

The company also says 2014 was a record year: billings rose 50 per cent and apps generated more than $10-billion in revenue for developers.

Thursday, Apple announced it would be raising the price on the App Store in Canada and some European countries in the next week, but didn’t say by how much.
