Drop-In Centre and Mustard Seed sing praises of Calgarians’ generosity

They might be down on their luck, but they haven’t been forgotten at Christmas.

Jordan Hamilton at the Drop-In and Rehab Centre tells 660News, thanks to the generosity of Calgarians, it’s going to be a Merry Christmas for those who rely on their services.

“We are starting the day off with a nutritious, delicious breakfast, everyone in fact is going to wake up to a stocking at the foot of their bed,” said Hamilton.  “750 people are going to have their one Christmas wish come true. We will have a wonderful turkey lunch followed by a roast beef dinner. Our homeless shelter is going to be merry, so pleased.”

Hamilton also says a record number of people have also volunteered this year to help spread holiday cheer at the Drop-In Centre.

The Mustard Seed is another social service agency which is singing the praises of Calgarians at this time of year.

Spokesperson Karen Taylor – Binnie says they are encouraged by what they have seen this Christmas.

“We’re just blown away this year in terms of the generosity of Calgarians,” said Taylor – Binnie. “We have received so many backpacks, stuffed socks and turkeys and Christmas hampers and it’s just been phenomenal, so many volunteers; we have passed our expectations in that regard.”

However, while thanking people for their generosity over the past few weeks, she wants to remind everyone they can still use help in the months following the holiday season.
