Calgary senior rescued just in time in city’s northwest

A Calgary senior is recovering in hospital thanks to police, paramedics and one of the HAWCS helicopters.

The man had gone for a walk in the Ranchlands area in the city’s northwest at around 6:30 p.m.

By 9 o’clock, when he still hadn’t come home, his wife called for help.

“The lady said her 70 year old husband had gone for a walk and hadn’t come home. She was somewhat afraid that he might’ve fallen down or gone missing.   He hadn’t taken any cell phone so she couldn’t get a hold of him,” explained Acting Detective Jack Russell.

Police swarmed the area and called in one of their choppers to use infra-red to help in the search effort.

Russell also told 660News HAWCS found him huddled around a tree and directed officers and paramedics to his location
just in the nick of time.

“He was treated and taken off to hospital by EMS, and they said without the HAWCS helicopter, that could’ve been a different outcome. So, great work by all–especially the helicopter crews,” said Russell. “It’s an invaluable tool for the Calgary Police Service.”

The senior, who was found unresponsive and so cold he had ice on his face, is apparently in stable condition.
