Happy 100th Birthday to Hockey Canada

Thursday marks a major milestone for one of the country’s best known sports governing bodies: Hockey Canada is 100 years old.

The centennial year has been impressive, with the men and women capturing double gold at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.

Dean McIntosh with Hockey Canada tells 660News, on-ice results internationally continue to be a priority.

“It is the pinnacle whether we are successful or not,” he said. “Certainly the pride, the number of people who watched the Olympics and the viewership for those games, and when you win two gold medals, the pride you take as an organization is from the grassroots programs and right on up.”

Next up on the calendar is the World Junior Tournament, which Toronto and Montreal are co-hosting at the end of December.

“We know that once people have finished unwrapping presents on the 25th that the culture for many people in Canada is to watch the World Juniors from December 26th through to January 5th. We can’t wait to host it again in Toronto and Montreal,” McIntosh added.

December also features Spengler Cup action in Davos, Switzerland.
