Calgarians get in on Black Friday deals

It’s long been one of the biggest shopping days of the year in the United States, and it’s starting to pick up steam in Canada.

Retailers are offering big deals for Black Friday, in hopes of grabbing a fair chunk of the Christmas shopping crowd.

A half a dozen people showed up at Visions Electronics on Macleod Trail Southeast for its 6 a.m. opening, planning to get some deals on televisions.

A steady stream of cars also pulled into the parking lot at Chinook Centre bright and early.

Brad says he’s a first time Black Friday shopper.

“Not unless I’ve got something I specifically need to buy would I probably come, but might as well,” he said.

Fraser says he’s braved the madness in the United States.

“It can be pretty crazy, yeah,” he said. “No battle wounds. I got away unscathed.”

Calgarians say they are okay with the American tradition coming to Canada, because it’s just like another Boxing Day.
