Zoolights starts at Calgary Zoo

It’s a Calgary tradition and it is back for its 17th year: Zoolights opens Friday night at the Calgary Zoo.

The grounds have been draped in millions of glowing light bulbs.

Spokesperson Larissa Mark tells 660News they are excited for a new feature this year:  a 3,600 square foot skating rink.

“We’re really excited to be able to offer people the opportunity to come and put on some skates and take a twirl around our rink, all under the magical canopy of zoo lights,” Mark said.

The young ones can also get a glimpse of the big man in red.

“Kids will be able to sit on Santa’s knee, and tell him what they want,” she said. “Then they’re going to be videotaped. Kids will be able to send a Santa salutation.”

Zoolights runs every evening with the exception of Christmas day from 6 to 9 p.m.

Tickets are sold separately from regular admission and are available at the zoo’s website.
