Calgary Communities offers opportunity for Calgarians to learn about organized and gang crime

An opportunity to learn more about crime in Calgary is being offered Wednesday night in Bowness.

The Federation of Calgary Communities is hosting the free event as part of the Partners in Crime Prevention Workshop Series.

The goal of this workshop is to help people better understand the structure and nature of organized crime and gangs in Calgary, which will in turn help community association volunteers and the general public learn about crime prevention strategies.

Stephanie Sokolowski with the Federation of Calgary Communities says it’s information communities are looking for.

“Gangs and organized crime aren’t just a problem Calgary Police face, Calgarians can actually be involved in gang prevention and creating solutions to gang problems,” she explained.

The strategies will come from CPS’s Guns and Gangs unit.

The event runs from 7 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. at the Bowness Community Association in the northwest.

The Federation is already planning workshops for 2015 which will focus on retail crime as well as bylaw and transit crime.
