Calgary’s Pharaohs Tattooing shut down, clients advised to be tested for viruses, Hepatitis, HIV

Health officials have shut down an unlicensed tattoo shop operating out of somebody’s home.

A complaint into Alberta Health Services had officials investigate Pharaohs Tattooing at 3519 Centre Street NW because of unsanitary operations.

AHS is advising anyone who received a tattoo to be tested for viruses including Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV.

Judy MacDonald, the Calgary zone’s medical officer of health, said the home-based operation did not use proper sterilization or sanitation procedures and was reusing equipment without the proper processing.

She said there is no evince that the needles themselves were reused but there is a possibility clients were exposed to other people’s blood.

AHS ordered the closure of Pharaohs Tattooing on October 30th. The order will remain in effect until the operator has addressed all the violations identified by the health authority.

Anyone thinking of getting a tattoo is reminded to ensure they choose an operation that is routinely inspected.

To check you can call AHS Environmental Public Health at 403-943-2288.

Closures are also posted here. week.
