Calgary Mayor hopes everyone will roll up sleeve and get flu shot

It’s time to roll up your sleeve and get the flu shot.

To show it’s something everyone should do, Mayor Naheed Nenshi bravely waited in line and got his shot on Friday.

He gets it every year, saying it keeps everyone else healthy and relieves stress on emergency rooms.

Mayor Nenshi said he’d love to see more people get the shot, and there are no excuses because it’s so easy.

All you need is your Alberta health card.

“I would encourage you to encourage other to get the shot,” said Nenshi. “If you know people, for example, who have close contact with seniors who have chronic conditions or who have close contact with children, those are precisely the kinds of people you should encourage to get the shot.”

Being afraid of needles won’t fly as an excuse either.

“If you’re really, really, really scared of needles, you can take the nasal spray and that’s available for kids as well, I’m told it’s actually really effective for children, but you know what, it’s a small needle. It doesn’t hurt at all and I got a puppy dog band-aid,” he said.

The mayor got his done at a public clinic and it only took him about 15 minutes to get the shot, but you can also go to the pharmacy or your family doctor.
