Opposition parties upset with Dirks’ approval of modular classrooms

Alberta’s education minister is taking some serious heat from opposition parties, for his thumbs up of two modular classrooms in the riding where he’s seeking a seat as an MLA in Monday’s byelection.

Gordon Dirks gave the approval for the rooms for William Reid School, when there were six other schools higher up on the CBE priority list, all outside the riding of Calgary-Elbow.

It’s the latest criticism from the Wildrose, Liberals and Alberta Party, who claim he’s used his unelected position as minister to sway voters.

Along with Calgary-Elbow, the three other byelections on Monday include Calgary-Foothills which Premier Jim Prentice is running in, Calgary-West and Edmonton-Whitemud.
