Nanton residents still with water restrictions despite temporary fix to waste-water plant

Water restrictions remain in Nanton after malfunctions at their waste-water treatment plant.

Residents are being asked to take quick showers, not to run their taps for long and do full loads of laundry to save water.

Temporary repairs to keep the plant in operation were completed over the weekend, but Mayor Rick Everett said there’s no timeline on when things will be back to normal.

“We know a wall failed. We can’t see the wall because we’re trying to keep the plant operating and it is under the liquid,” he said. “So in order to actually get at the wall, we have to shut part of our plant down and we’re trying to do that in a way that we can maintain the requirements we have to with the government, but at the same time do the repairs.”

Everett said it’s also tricky because the system is about 40 years old, and some of the manufacturers of the parts are actually out of business.
