U of C Dinos hope to be playoff bound in women’s soccer

With a record of 4-1-3, the University of Calgary women’s soccer team is having a successful season, but they want more.

This weekend, they have the opportunity to help secure their place in the post-season with a pair of matches against Winnipeg.

Head coach Troye Flannery tells 660News, earning the full six points is crucial.

“The outright goal is to win both games,” Flannery said.

“That’s no disrespect Winnipeg. That’s just us focusing on what we think we need and what we’re capable of doing. It doesn’t matter about the opposition. We’re going to do what we think we’re good at. That’s the result we aspire to have.”

Calgary is currently sitting atop the Prairies Division with 15 points. In contrast, Winnipeg is struggling and has only won one match.

The top four teams in each Canada West division will qualify for the playoffs, but only four points separate first and fifth place.

Both games kick off at 12 p.m. (West Varsity pitch) and Sunday’s match will showcase the Dinos in pink kits in support of breast cancer awareness.
