CDC confirms 1st case of Ebola in U.S., report says

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Tuesday confirmed the first case of Ebola has been diagnosed in the United States, Reuters reports.

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas doctors placed a patient in isolation on Monday for potential exposure to the Ebola virus.

Dallas County Health and Human Services director spoke with CNN affiliate KTVT, saying the patient had been in West Africa where the Ebola outbreak exists.

The hospital said it was “following all Centers for Disease Control and Texas Department of Health Recommendations.”

The CDC is expected to speak about this latest diagnosis at a news conference scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET.

At least 3,091 people have died from Ebola since the West African outbreak was first identified in Guinea six months ago.
