Premier Prentice announces new Accountability Act

Premier Jim Prentice says not only will he put an end to blatant political appointments, he will also go back and review appointments already made.
Prentice says everyone his cabinet picks to sit on a board or agency must be the best person for the job, regardless of their present or past political affiliation.
The premier made the comments as he unveiled details to be included in a bill that will tabled in the legislature this fall to end entitlements.
Prentice says there will a one-year cooling off period for politicians and staffers who leave government.
He says there will be new rules to prevent sole-sourcing contracts.
There will also safeguards to prevent a company from end-running those rules by stacking up so many small untendered contracts that they equal one large payout.
