Anonymous, good Samaritan works to make bus stop more liveable

For transit-users at the 96th Avenue and Harvest Hills Link N.E. bus stop, their surroundings are starting to take on a “homier” appeal.

Someone has left behind a table, chair, books and even fresh flowers for people to enjoy while they wait for the bus.

Calgary Transit Spokesperson Ron Collins believes this is definitely a first in their history.

“We’ve had on occasion, folks that have adopted passenger shelters and keep them clean and cut the grass around them,” he said.

According to Collins, they first became aware of the gesture after seeing Transit user Conrad’s tweet.

Conrad Hild tells 660News the whole set-up started appearing in stages.

“It started out as a chair, then someone put an end table, the next day there was a vase of fresh flowers and then it developed into a magazine, some books and puzzles,” he said. “I’m not sure of the intent but I’m assuming it’s to make it a nicer stop for those of us who use it.”

Hild believes it’s definitely an interesting and unique approach.

“There’s not much there, other than a cement pad. There’s no shelter and it makes a unique conversation piece if nothing else,” Hild said.

The good Samaritan’s identity to date, remains a mystery.
