YWCA Walk a Mile in Her Shoes raises cash for women fleeing domestic violence

It’s a light-hearted event about a serious topic.

A group of men will be slipping on high heels Thursday, and taking two laps around Olympic Plaza to support women fleeing family violence.

YWCA’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event will be raising money for things like counselling and emergency shelter.

Spokesperson Elsbeth Mehrer says it’s inspiring to see the men who choose to take part.

“We’re so grateful that these brave individuals, these guys, will endure blisters and calf cramps,” she said. “Because they really are raising awareness and some much needed money to support our work.”

So far, the event has raised $130,000 and they are aiming to double that amount.

The men will march from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
