A full weekend of events to help forget the snow

With the winter weather this week it’s easy to forget this is still technically summer and there are a lot of events in the city still a go this weekend.

For those who want to take a break from yard cleanup, Friday evening will be the last of the Night Markets in Inglewood where Calgary DJ Reggie Suave will lead a dance party amid the community street fair from 6 p.m. to midnight.

Taking to the city’s west side, Calaway Park is inviting fun-seekers to ‘shake off this week’s snowy blues’ as even though the amusement park saw some tree damage, it is open this weekend from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and until October 13th.

The Talisman Centre is hosting a full Saturday with a free open house including activities like group fitness classes, a floating maze, basketball, volleyball, badminton, discussion on hot topics in nutrition with the in-house dietitian, and an Olympic lifting seminar. The centre is open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.

At the BMO Centre, the Bridal Expo and fashion shows go from 10 to 5 Sunday. Entry is $25 at the door.

Hundreds will gather at Eau Claire Market Sunday morning for the Terry Fox Run. Registration opens at 9:30 a.m. with the race beginning at 11 a.m.

The Terry Fox Run will also take place at McKenzie Towne’s Towne Hall from 9 a.m. until 11:30 am.

Heritage Park is sharing culture with a Treaty 7 Powwow Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. including spectacular dance competitions at the sound of the drum beat and an arts and craft market.

Despite a notable dumping of snow, the track for the Masters Tournament at Spruce Meadows is a go with world-class show jumpers competing for prize money and international acclaim. The final days of completion warp up Sunday.

A 16-ring, Fall Cat Show will go ahead both weekend days at the Frank McCool Arena, just behind the Lake Bonavista Recreation Centre. Judging goes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Regular entry is $5, less for children and seniors.
