WIldrose calls on Finance Minister to resign, payback cost of misused government aircraft

With less than a week to go until the Alberta Progressive Conservative party chooses a new leader, scandal over the use of government aircraft continues to grow.

The official opposition Wildrose party is again calling on Finance Minister Doug Horner to resign and “repay taxpayer money” after he reportedly flew family members on government planes at least 23 times.

MLA Rob Anderson, the official Wildrose finance critic, said if Mr. Horner wants to show any sense of dignity, he must immediately pay back the money.

He said Horner needs to remember these flights are similar to the ones that lead to former Premier Alison Redford’s downfall as well as the ongoing RCMP investigation.

“This type of flagrant, serial abuse of taxpayer dollars and the government air fleet did not begin with Ms. Redford. In fact, it seems Ms. Redford learned her behavior form her very own finance minister,” said Anderson.

Anderson is also calling on PC leadership hopeful Jim Prentice to drop Horner from his campaign, calling him a key player in Prentice’s inner circle.
