Tour of Alberta rolls into Calgary

Many of the world’s best cyclists are wheeling into Calgary.

It’s all for the Tour of Alberta, which kicks off Tuesday evening, with a prologue at Canada Olympic Park.

Duane Vienneaux, with the tour says, a prologue is a time trial, where everyone goes out individually, trying for the fastest time.

“We start at the bottom, and it’s over 4 kilometres, they ultimately end at the start of the bobsled,” says Vienneaux. “It’s going to be exciting. We expect lots of crowds out there, coming out to have some fun watching some first class racing.”

You can head down to C.O.P. for the festival beginning at 3:00p.m.

They’re not here for long though, Vienneaux said on Wednesday, they’ll be doing a circuit in Lethbridge.

“The next day we head a bit north. We’ll be starting in Innisfail, going through Sylvan Lake, and ultimately finishing in Red Deer. [Friday] We start in Wetaskiwin, and we’ll go through a lot of rural communities ultimately end at the military base just north of Edmonton, called Edmonton Garrison; we’ll actually finish right on the runway,” says Vienneaux. “[Saturday] they start in Edmonton and go through some rural communities and finish in Sherwood Park, and then last but not least there will be a downtown circuit finish in Edmonton.”

The festival gets underway in Edmonton Churchill Square at 11:00 a.m.
