Calgary brothers fighting for ISIS, Calgary Imam not surprised

There’s been another link between the terrorist group ISIS, and the city of Calgary.

Two Calgary brothers are the latest to be identified as fighting with ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

Collin and Gregory Gordon left Calgary in 2012 and it’s believed that’s when they went to Syria to take up arms.

According to the CBC, the two were recent converts to Islam before the trip.

In that report, the Gordon family said, “We would like all to know we love and miss our sons dearly. We are deeply concerned for their safety.”

Since their disappearance, Collin has become very active on social media, posting on Twitter after the slaying of an American journalist, “10-out-of-10. The video of James Foley losing his neck is the perfection of terrorism.”

But the president of the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada Syed Sohawardy told 660News he’s not surprised, because terrorists groups were doing heavy recruiting in the city from 2011 to 2013 and they continue to brainwash people even now.

“There was nothing done by the government to stop it or monitor it, and they were given a free hand to recruit and go overseas,” he explained. “I think we should do more and we should be more vigilant and we should do more monitoring. We have to work within the community to educate the young boys and men that ISIS is very un-Islamic and they are absolutely criminals.”

He added ISIS militants are the worst people on planet earth, and we need to work together to stop them, but he admitted we’ll hear about more cases in the future.

“At the same time, this bad news should not discourage us and make us hopeless, it should encourage us to do more and stop this madness which is spreading around the world, ISIS has to be stopped,” he said.
