Alberta communities now have access to $500,000 for wildfire protection.
The provincial government is granting the FireSmart program the purse to help protect communities from the threat of wildfires.
About 400 cities and towns in the Alberta Forest Protection Area are eligible for the cash.
Duncan MacDonnell with Environment and Sustainable Recourses says there is a range of projects municipalities can put the money toward.
“It’s for projects like removing hazard fuel, which is older, decadent trees from around the community, or emergency response training of a fire smart hazard reduction plan.”
Applications for the grant will be accepted until October 8th.
