Don’t drink and drive: police prepare for long weekend

A long weekend means lots of partying across Alberta.

Whether you’re staying in the city or heading out of town, police will be keeping a strong presence on the roads to make sure no one is drinking and driving.

Police say they’ll be looking for drunk drivers day and night.

Inspector Ken Thrower told 660News a hot day on the long weekend may entice you to have a drink or two but that could still get you in trouble if you get behind the wheel.

“In the sun, let’s face it, statistics tell you everything,” he explained. “It effects you a lot quicker; you’re dehydrated. Maybe you drink the same amount you might drink at night, but during the day, in the heat, it will effect you a lot quicker.”

“Let’s enjoy the weekend, let’s enjoy the summer and not have any unfortunate situations where you could’ve changed the course by not drinking and driving,” he said. “Stay at home, enjoy, just don’t drink and drive, and have fun, enjoy the heat.”

He added you don’t want to do something that will ruin your weekend or more.
