Two Mounties now face charges in relation to on-duty incident in Banff

A pair of RCMP officers are now facing criminal charges following some kind of on-duty incident last month in Banff.

Constables Dumont-Fontaine and Cutcliffe are each facing a count of being Unlawfully in a dwelling and Obstruction of Justice and have been suspended from duty.

“The information to charge both officers was in consultation with the Crown’s office and their first appearance will be on August 13th, 2014 in Canmore,” says Corporal Sharon Franks.

Franks couldn’t go into detail about what the two were responding to or how it involved an unrelated civilian.

She adds at this stage, the RCMP is continuing to handle the investigation.

“We have an investigative team that does investigate any officers who have been accused of a crime, that investigation would go on by senior officers and once that’s concluded it is sent to the Crown,” she says.

An internal Code of Conduct investigation has been ordered and is currently underway.

Not much is known about either officer and how many years of service they each hold.
