Airdrie getting ready for Alberta Summer Games

Over the next few days Airdrie will be the sporting capital of Alberta.

The 2014 Alberta Summer Games will kick-off Thursday in Airdrie, running until Sunday.

Chairman Al Jones says hundreds of people have been working on hosting the games for more than two years.

“It’s a huge, huge event, and it’s taken a lot of time and a lot of support from a lot of people to put it together,” he said.

Some three thousand athletes, coaches and officials will converge on for the various sporting events.

Games organizers expect before the weekend is out more than 15,000 people, mostly family and friends will take in the action.

Tickets are still available, although the opening ceremonies are sold out.
